Mel Torrie, CEO and founder of Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI), has built a successful robotics startup with a current valuation of $85 million. Since its founding in 2000, ASI has grown to become one of the largest privately-owned robotics startups, with a focus on developing autonomous vehicles for various industries including industrial, mining, military, and agricultural. The company has automated 75 types of vehicles at its 100-acre facility in Utah, and has demonstrated its expertise in fields ranging from bomb disposal robots to massive mining haul trucks. In this interview, Torrie discusses his experiences bootstrapping ASI and the challenges and opportunities he has encountered along the way.
